Bison painting
Start to finish
I’ll start with the finish. Delivered and hung a couple of days ago.
If you missed my last newsletter here is the beginning that I shared. And process photos I took along the way…my apologies for the poor lighting.
It was here that I started feeling close to finished. My friend came to see it and we talked about what was working and what wasn’t so much. Her suggestion was spot on.
Adding grass to hide the legs of the two figures on the left and making them slightly smaller pushed them into a different plane. But I had to leave it for a couple of days before seeing how to find the middle figure again.
Here is what resulted after realizing a different orientation.
Adjusting the color surrounding the figures left the little trees almost disappearing, but I liked that, plus the break from a line of figures moving in one direction which had bugged me from the start.
Then the final varnish of three coats of Gamblin cold wax medium, which gives a sort of furniture polish patina when buffed.
My view as I lift my head and realize I’m late getting out to feed the ponies!
Love,
Dell
